Incident Type: Rescue

A man was reported to have fallen in a ‘ravine’ near Greenside and was in a great deal of pain from the injuries he had sustained. Paramedics from the North East Ambulance Service, who were on scene, requested Mountain Rescue’s assistance to evacuate the man from a difficult to access location on Coalway Lane.

Team members local to the incident arrived swiftly and determined the equipment required for the evacuation. As soon as North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team’s and our response vehicles arrived at the RVP on Bradley Fell Road, vital rescue equipment and other members were deployed to the incident site. After packaging the casualty on the stretcher and an initial carry of 30 metres, the wheel was attached for the remainder of the 1.25km evacuation to the nearest road.

The casualty was then handed over to the NEAS crewed ambulance for onward transport to hospital and the Teams stood down.

A very unfortunate accident and we wish the man well for a full and speedy recovery.

The incident involved 22 members for 3 hours 20 minutes.
