Claxheugh Rock

Following a long day of searching in the Houghton-le-Spring area on Thursday, volunteer members from North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team and our Team made their way to Claxheugh Rock in South Hylton, Sunderland. The plan was to search the Rock and the some of the very steep ground below to assist the Police with an ongoing investigation.

Unfortunately our plans were thwarted by a very lively horse in the field above the Rock, which made it unsafe for our members to rig an anchor system far enough away from the edge of the cliff. Members will return at some point in the future when the horse is not in the field or when it can be contained while the search progresses.

The Teams would like to thank Northumbria Police for the food and drink, which was very welcome at the end of a very long day.

The incident involved 14 Team members for 2 hours 15 minutes.
