Incident Type: Rescue

At the end of last week, ourselves and North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team were called out to assist an organised group on the moors between Lorbottle Hall and Callaly.

One member of the group had fallen, sustaining a lower leg injury and was unable to weight bear. The North East Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust was contacted, and as a Community Paramedic arrived at the roadside rendezvous point, mountain rescue support was requested due to the location and terrain.

Volunteer members deployed from multiple directions to ensure a swift and coordinated response. Once on scene, our members worked alongside the Community Paramedic to provide additional pain relief and stabilise the leg injury.

With daylight fading and temperatures dropping, the casualty was carefully packaged in a winter casualty bag and secured onto a Titan stretcher. A stretcher party then carried out a controlled evacuation down a wet and slippery hillside, followed by a very muddy track.

At the roadside, the casualty was safely handed over to a double-crewed ambulance for onward transport to hospital. We wish the casualty well for a full and swift recovery.

The incident involved 29 Team members for 2 hours 17 minutes, of which 13 members were stood down prior to arriving at the RVP.
