Incident Type: Standby

On Sunday afternoon, Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service requested support from ourselves and North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team to help locate three teenagers who were lost and disoriented in woodland near Blyth, close to the Spine Road — with reports suggesting they were also near a steep drop.

One of our Duty Controllers picked up the call, supported by other controllers. A PhoneFind text was sent and direct contact made with the teenagers, helping to narrow down their location.

As this was happening, the Fire & Rescue crew mobilised to the scene arrived and quickly located the group. With a good outcome already unfolding, the plan to deploy local Mountain Rescue resources was stood down.

A big thanks to Northumberland Fire & Rescue Service for their rapid response, and a great reminder that early contact and good coordination can bring about swift and safe resolutions.

The incident involved 7 Team members for 20 minutes.
