Incident Type: Rescue

On Monday, Northumbria Police requested assistance from ourselves and North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team in rescuing a young person who’d fallen from his mountain bike and sustained an injury whilst out in Kielder Forest.

One our duty controllers picked up the request and placed teams on standby.

It was quickly established that the casualty was accessible via a 4×4 vehicle track so a limited response with local members was then initiated. The rest of the teams remained on standby in case the plan of driving to the casualty’s location was not viable.

A mountain rescue team member arrived quickly on scene, followed by the North East Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust community paramedic. Pain relief was administered and the casualty was transferred via a Mountain Resuce vehicle to a nearby ambulance.

Given the remoteness of the incident, it was resolved swiftly and we wish the young person a speedy recovery.

The incident involved 6 Team members for 3 hours and 58 minutes. A further 11 members were on standby in readiness to deploy if the incident escalated.
