Incident Type: Rescue
On Sunday, ourselves and North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team were activated by the North East Ambulance Service to assist with a rider who’d fallen from their horse; this was the third horse riding related incident in a week that our teams have been asked to assist with.
Our duty controller activated both teams once it became apparent that our help would be needed. Members within 30 minutes of the incident responded and two mountain rescue vehicles travelled on ‘blue lights’ to incident site.
Upon arrival, team members liaised with the NEAS paramedics on scene, who’d placed the casualty on a stretcher, but needed assistance in evacuating the casualty to their ambulance.
Several team members helped with a short carry down a track and handed the casualty over to the HART team, who took them down to the waiting ambulance.
Great teamwork with the NEAS and HART crews brought the incident to a swift conclusion and we wish the casualty a speedy recovery.
The incident involved 20 team members for 1 hour and 50 minutes.
