Incident Type: Rescue

On Sunday, ourselves and North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team were called by North East Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust to assist following reports of a mountain biker who had fallen down a steep bank and suffered a serious injury.

Working alongside colleagues from Maritime and Coastguard Agency and NEAS, team members carried specialist rescue and medical equipment to the casualty site before setting up a rope rescue system to safely extricate the casualty from difficult terrain.

Once safely recovered to the path above, the casualty was transferred to the waiting ambulance for onward care.

This incident highlights the value of multi-agency working, with volunteers and emergency service personnel coming together to bring specialist skills and equipment to a challenging rescue situation.

We’d like to thank all agencies involved for their teamwork and support throughout the incident.

The involved 17 Team members for 3 hours 40 minutes. In additional 12 Coastguard team members attended.
