Incident Type: Rescue

On Monday morning, our volunteers were called out alongside North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team following a request from the North East Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust to assist with the location and evacuation of an injured quad bike rider from remote farmland near Langley.

The initial location information proved to be inaccurate, with the What3Words reference placing the incident around 2km from the actual location and on the opposite side of the River Allen. A subsequent attempt to obtain a more accurate location using SARLOC was unsuccessful . Fortunately, further information provided by the ambulance service, including the correct farm location, quickly enabled our teams to respond to the right place.

With local team members deploying directly and mountain rescue vehicles responding from our bases, ambulance clinicians and HART personnel were able to reach the casualty by ATV before mountain rescue teams arrived. Our vehicles were then able to drive to within around 50 metres of the incident.

The male casualty had sustained potentially serious injuries.

Working alongside NEAS, the casualty was carefully immobilised using a vacuum mattress before being stretchered the short distance to one of our rescue vehicles and transported to the waiting ambulance for onward care.

Once it was clear that no further personnel were required, the remaining volunteers who had been placed on standby were stood down.

We wish the casualty a full and speedy recovery.
